Myths Related To Project Management

Steven Scalabrini

We talk a lot about the different tips and tricks that can be actively used to manage various projects, but there are multiple myths connected to project management. It is essential to debunk these myths because they can create problems and raise issues that negatively affect the project.

Today, let’s look at some of the famous myths related to Project Management and see the actual way to go about them.

Anyone and Anybody can manage projects

This is one of the most commonly found myths regarding project management. Although yes, project management, if done right, is not very difficult but it is not a piece of cake for everyone. Every individual is not built to take on the pressure and the added responsibility that comes with handling various projects. Moreover, you need the right set of skills and technical knowledge to be a manager and manage projects of different levels.

A manager should be a tech expert

Yes, having technical skills and technological knowledge regarding various tools online and in the field is very important. Still, it is not the condition on which you can judge anyone. A manager with the right confidence and basic skills can handle projects. The added-on quality includes ready to take on responsibility and the willingness to learn more and more. This means that if a new project requires him to learn a certain tool or technology, he does not back down but instead learns it and successfully completes the project.

Documentation is not necessary

This is a myth that needs to be debunked as soon as possible. Why do we think that documentation is not necessary? It is as essential as any other work that needs to be done physically in the field. While working in the field is proof of your work, documentation is proof of all of your work on and off the field.

Complete documentation should be present regarding the project. When it started, when it finished, the number of people involved, the capital utilized and saved, the pros and the cons.

There are other myths connected to project management, but these are the most important and dangerous ones that have been making the rounds. It is essential that when you hear a myth you know is not correct, you end it by debunking it. That helps you and all the others who might be disadvantaged from believing in those myths.
